Is hard to find the time to read a book these days besides the fact that the internet distances us from reading actual books as we find so much information on anything at the click of a word, there are anyhow, those times when our minds become so agitated with speed of events that we really need to slow down and take our imagination somewhere else, to somebody else’s story perhaps or a story that can teach us new lessons outside from our personal reality and there’s where this book is key to read. I have read several books by Paulo Coelho but ironically despite I heard a lot of good reviews about it, never read this his best seller; I just finished on the train home last night.
I have to say honestly, that I expected a more transcendental book, a more elaborated plot or I really don’t know what I did expect but instead I found this enchanting simple journey through imagination on a boy’s pilgrimage and could not stop reading it to its end in just few days. It is so gentle the way his fictional story merges with profound analysis and real inspirational wisdom in its quotes that its lessons seem to get embedded in your mind like transforming iron thoughts for gold ones as if by the tuition of an expertise or master teacher and then you know, you too have met the alchemist, you too are looking for a treasure and you too want to find it… Excellent!
Here are a few of my favorite quotes:
* “It is the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting”
*“Treason is a blow that comes unexpectedly. If you know your heart well, it will never be able to do that to you. Because you’ll know its dreams and wishes, and will know how to deal with them
*”When each day is the same as the next, it’s because people fail to recognize the good things that happen in their lives every day that the sun rises.”
*“If good things are coming, they will be a pleasant surprise,” said the seer. “If bad things are, and you know in advance, you will suffer greatly before they even occur.”
*”There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.”
*“When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”
Will Smith seems to love it too 🙂
